Director, Ivymount Outreach Education and Recreation Programs
Amy Couch, both a parent and professional in the field of special education, has extensive experience in family support and creating successful wrap around programming for families of special needs children.
Originally from Arkansas, Amy received her Masters of Political Science from Fordham University in 2002 and moved to Maryland with her family in 2003. After her son was diagnosed with autism, Amy began her career in special education in 2007 as the Family Support Network Coordinator for the Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program, focusing on the areas of professional development, family support, policy and advocacy.
In 2012, Amy joined the Ivymount Corporate Team as the Director of Outreach Programs. With the desire to share the Ivymount experience with more children and families across the Washington, DC area, Amy designed and implemented both educational and recreational services after school and on weekends, many of which include parent support and education. Amy, with the help of her team, also assists parents in building positive, productive relationships with educators and therapeutic teams, and in finding community resources to support ongoing student needs and development.
Program Coordinator, Ivymount Outreach Programs
Originally from Kentucky, Barbara joined the Ivymount Outreach
team in 2014 after graduating from Marquette University with a BA in Writing-Intensive English. Barbara has been
an advocate for families of children with special needs since the age of five,
when her younger sister, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with autism.
Barbara has a strong commitment to family support and
quality special education programming and strives to make each student’s outreach
experience the most successful it can be. Barbara believes strongly that a
student’s achievements are much more valuable than the challenges they struggle
with. On any given Saturday, she can be found celebrating victories, both big
and small, with Outreach students and their families.

A lifelong Maryland resident, Courtney holds a Masters in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton (UK) and graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2007. Her diverse professional experience includes a national political nonprofit, state archaeological conservation lab, and university library system. She enjoys distance running and volunteers for the Smithsonian Institution in her free time.
