Conversation Programs

Conversation Club: 
The Conversation Club was written and evaluated by Ivymount staff. Conversation Club provides a comprehensive curriculum for teaching both the “how” and the “why” of conversation. Children will join the conversation club and throughout their time together they will meet a cast of kid friendly club members. During  club meetings the activities target conversation initiation, topic selection, topic maintenance, perspective taking, social motivation and body awareness, active listening behaviors, gaining attention behaviors and conversation repair. 

Conversation Street:This fun curricula uses the metaphor of driving a car to build conversations with students.  Students will learn the lesson and then share a light snack and practice those skills with a friend. 

Conversation Club student profile: Elementary aged students with some language or intellectual differences
Conversation Street student profile: Upper Elementary to middle school aged students who are highly verbal children (no expressive or receptive language challenges) without cognitive differences.
Prerequisites: none
Program Length: 12 weeks
Parent Groups: Parents will be invited to six, 1 hour, training's on Saturday mornings
Tuition: $1650
Dates: February 10th-May 19th (no sessions on February 17th, March 24th, or March 31st)
Time: ​TBD, one hour sessions on Saturday mornings to be scheduled between 9am-12:30pm

Game Time

Elementary to middle school aged participants will learn about how to share an experience by playing games in a way that makes all participants want to play again the next time. Topics covered include how to win and lose, how to choose who goes first, and negotiating the rules of the game. 

Student Profile: Students who are able to access learning through a verbal based instructional format. Language skills and cognition should be within the average range. Generally students are able to be in grade level curriculum at school, although they may have some disparities.
Prerequisites: Often students will do this AFTER the completion of Unstuck and On Target as the Unstuck language is used extensively. 
Program Length: 12 weeks
Parent Groups: Parents will be invited to six, 1 hour training's on Saturday mornings

Friendship Mythbusters


Using a variety of fun, interactive activities, elementary to middle school aged students "bust" common misperceptions such as "friends always agree," and "I can only have one best friend."  Students will come home with myths they have busted so that parents can support the generalization during play-dates and community based activities.

Secrets of Friendship

This fun curriculum gives your elementary to middle school aged child the key "secrets" to making and keeping a friend; including who is a friend and who isn't, and why friends are important.
